Rodents in Northern Utah
What Are Rodents?
The most common Utah home-invading rodents are the house mouse, Norway rat, and roof rat. All enter structures seeking warmth and food, typically September through April.
Signs of Rodents Activity
- Droppings along walls or in cabinets
- Gnaw marks on food packaging or wiring
- Scratching sounds in walls or ceiling at night
- Nesting material (shredded paper, fabric) in hidden areas
- Runways — greasy marks along walls
Are Rodents Dangerous?
Rodents contaminate food and surfaces, damage wiring (fire risk), and can transmit Hantavirus (deer mice), Salmonella, and leptospirosis.
