Spiders in Northern Utah

What Are Spiders?

Northern Utah's most concerning spider species are the hobo spider and black widow. Wolf spiders, cellar spiders, and yellow sac spiders are also extremely common throughout the region.

Signs of Spiders Activity

  • Funnel webs in corners, window wells, and garages (hobo spiders)
  • Irregular tangled webs low to ground in sheltered areas with red hourglass marking (black widows)
  • Large fast-moving spiders on floors at night (wolf spiders)
  • Long-legged spiders in high ceiling corners (cellar spiders)

Are Spiders Dangerous?

Black widow venom is medically significant — seek medical attention if bitten. Hobo spider bites can cause local pain. Other species are nuisance pests.
